Why was From Da Underground created?
I created From Da Underground because being a former member to a great number of other Hip-Hop & Poetry forums, I have realized that there is always a line of division between Hip-Hop, Poetry & Art - which I feel is limiting to one's growth.
As artists we must venture outside of our comfort zones and allow our minds to be inspired by all forms of art. Other sites I have been active on, do not encourage or help create the union of visual art, hip-hop, poetry, etc. Instead there are lines being drawn in the sand.
At From Da Underground, we will work to erase those lines and we will work as one moving unit of artists - that is the goal and intention behind creating this site.
What makes From Da Underground different from other similar sites?
What makes a site different from others is not only just features, stylistics, and activities - site staff makes a huge difference; and that's what makes From Da Underground different.
1) Our staff is always willing to extend a helping hand. We are unbias, respectful, mature and most importantly, we believe that one's talent only stops growing when the artist stops working. We are also stern and take our roles seriously and this site seriously. We strive to grow as individuals and as a group; and will not abuse our power. We do not believe that being a site owner, admin, or mod makes us more talented than anyone else, or better or more important - we are here to enforce the From Da Underground Honor Code and to challenge ourselves as artists - JUST LIKE YOU.
2) Our forum features are easy to use and up-to-date. Each From Da Underground member has their own profile, in which they can upload photos & images, share info, and create blogs and more! Other members (or strictly friends) can post comments in your profile. There are numerous features to take advantage of.
3) The stylistics of From Da Underground are unique and always changing. There will be periodic changes to the forum's colors & logo, according to holidays and special celebrations. We like to see the site make positive changes just like it's members.
4) From Da Underground activities are never-ending. We have activties and projects for each art catergory: Poetry, Hip-Hop, Visual Art, and even general discussion. We encourage member's to participate in tournaments, one-on-one battles, collaborations and also reading/listening and posting individual works of art. We will also have special annual contests throughout the year. We wish to provide each member the chance to be a part of the From Da Underground unit.
It is important to our staff that everyone continues to grow and in order to do so, we must challenge ourselves and one another. Ideas are always filling our heads and we want to make sure there is always something for From Da Underground members and staff to do.
We will not leave anyone out.
Which art form on From Da Underground do you enjoy most?
I enjoy all the art forms celebrated on this site - that's why I included each one when I created it. I do not typically favor one over the other because I have learned and experienced life with art, music, and poetry running strong in my soul. I can only hope that From Da Undergorund helps members see the positive attributes each art form has to offer.
How long have you been practicing each art form?
I have been drawing since I could hold a crayon. I have been writing poetry since I could allow myself to let my thoughts out. I have been dabbling in the hip-hop genre for about 2 years now, but it was mainly just writing rhymes and playing with rhymeschemes and vocabulary. I started recording my songs about a year ago. Regardless of how long I have been practicing these things, there is always room to improve.
